Meet James Maloney

James Maloney is honoured to be the Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore. James’ journey in public office began in 2014, when Toronto City Council appointed him interim Councillor of Ward 5 until the municipal elections could be held in October 2014. Elected to Parliament in 2015, James continues to serve his community in Ottawa.

While his public service officially began in 2014, he was actually born into it. His father served as a judge and his mother was a community activist who volunteered for local organizations and was dedicated to the advancement of women in politics. James grew up in a home where public service was revered and was seen as a calling to improving the lives of those around him, values he continues to cherish and to which he aspires.

A civil trial lawyer by training, James is originally from Thunder Bay but has lived and worked in Etobicoke for forty years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bishop’s University, and his Law degrees from the University of Windsor and the University of Wales in Cardiff, UK.

James has a varied volunteer background. He is the former President of the Toronto Lawyers Club, served on the Board of Directors for the local Franklin Horner Community Centre and the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto. He is the proud recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

James is currently the Chair of the House of Commons Natural Resources Committee and sits on the Liaison Committee which works on administrative matters of committees. He is Co-Chair of the Toronto Caucus and is a member of the Auto Caucus.
